1.e4 (0:00)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I really have no idea what my opponent is going to play in this game
1...c5 (0:00) 2.Nf3 (0:08)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I wanted to play this all along, so I don't really care exactly what he's prepared
2...g6 (0:14) 3.c3 (1:23)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I guess this is good
axeltiger(2311) whispers: this variation is not very ambitious, and I've even gotten a chance to play a game in it
axeltiger(2311) whispers: which is kind of odd, considering I haven't played this variation more than maybe 3 times in my life
3...d5 (0:49)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: this is the natural response
axeltiger(2311) whispers: just exploit the fact that white put a pawn on c3 in order to stake a claim in the center
4.exd5 (0:36) Qxd5 (0:03) 5.d4 (0:33)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: black has several options here
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I just want to make sure that I don't pick a bad one just because I'm happy with this position
5...Bg7 (4:05) 6.Be2 (2:01) cxd4 (2:38) 7.cxd4 (1:07) Nf6 (1:28) 8.Nc3 (0:37)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: guess I'm just going to play against the isolated queen's pawn this game
8...Qa5 (0:31) 9.O-O (1:08) O-O (0:37)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: this position is actually quite rich in ideas for both sides
axeltiger(2311) whispers: it's not going to be completely easy to navigate
10.Re1 (7:58) Rd8 (5:17)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: this is of course a great risk I'm taking
axeltiger(2311) whispers: Bc4 is very dangerous here
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I could've played Nbd7 if I wanted, trying to play Nb6-d5
axeltiger(2311) whispers: but there was something about that move that bothered me, I can't really remember why
axeltiger(2311) whispers: maybe it was just a hallucination?
axeltiger(2311) whispers: very possible, this is actually quite risky
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I may be forced into playing ...e6, after which white plays Bg5
axeltiger(2311) whispers: of course, my position isn't really losing yet, but I will have to be a bit careful from now on
axeltiger(2311) whispers: there is some play that black gets if white is too ambitious, but I don't see what white should try if not Bc4 here
11.Bc4 (8:19) e6 (0:04)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I could potentially try to kick the bishop away with h6 after Bg5 here
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I doubt that white would be interested in taking on f6 without a cause
axeltiger(2311) whispers: but in all honesty, I'm kind of dissatisfied with Rd8
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I think Nbd7 would've been a fair bit stronger
12.Qb3 (3:40)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: it's a crucial tempo in many lines, and white would be forced to find another way to play
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I did not consider this option
axeltiger(2311) whispers: what is the exact point after Nc6 here?
axeltiger(2311) whispers: Nc6 d5 exd5 Nxd5 Nxd5 Bxd5 Qxd5 Qxd5 Rxd5 Re8+ Bf8 Bh6 is the plan I guess
axeltiger(2311) whispers: Nc6 d5 exd5 Nxd5 Nxd5 Bxd5 Rxd5 Re8 Bf8 Bh6 Re8 Ng5 is also problematic
axeltiger(2311) whispers: such an odd tactical pattern
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I'm growing more and more disappointed at my decision to play 10...Rd8
12...h6 (10:22)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I can't really allow that d5 push
axeltiger(2311) whispers: and now I have to play like this in order to prevent it
13.Bd2 (11:57)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: tricky move
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I didn't see it
axeltiger(2311) whispers: on the other hand, my hand was kind of forced when playing ...h6
axeltiger(2311) whispers: it really seems like I'm forced to play either Re8 or Rf8 here
axeltiger(2311) whispers: Nd5 is too much of a threat, my queen is trapped
axeltiger(2311) whispers: 10...Rd8, what a howler it turned out to be!
axeltiger(2311) whispers: Qf5 Re5! Qg4 h3 also loses the queen
axeltiger(2311) whispers: it's quite extraordinary, I usually manage to avoid losing my queen straight out of the opening
axeltiger(2311) whispers: biggest issue is of course that after Rf8 d5 I will lose material by force
axeltiger(2311) whispers: f7 is too weak
axeltiger(2311) whispers: maybe I can play something weird like Rd6?
axeltiger(2311) whispers: no
axeltiger(2311) whispers: but maybe Rd7 could be possible?
axeltiger(2311) whispers: really a process of elimination at this point
13...Rd7 (12:19)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: the point is that Ne5 might not work due to the pawn on d4 hanging
axeltiger(2311) whispers: still seems like d5 wins material here
axeltiger(2311) whispers: it's a nice way to refute my play
axeltiger(2311) whispers: usually I get in far less trouble while playing far worse than this
axeltiger(2311) whispers: In a sense, it was very easy to miss the nasty 12.Qb3 shot, but even considering that 10...Rd8 was probably still a bad move even if 12.Qb3 wasn't a powerful idea
14.d5 (5:35) exd5 (0:06) 15.Nxd5 (0:23) Qd8 (0:06) 16.Nxf6+ (0:32) Bxf6 (0:03)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: this position is truly horrendous
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I won't even be able to develop properly due to the rook on d7
axeltiger(2311) whispers: at the same time, my hand was completely forced
axeltiger(2311) whispers: all the way back since 10...Rd8
axeltiger(2311) whispers: I award myself zero points for botching the opening like this
17.Bxh6 (1:57)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: Rd1 is coming next, and I have absolutely no way to deal with it
17...Re7 (2:08) 18.Rxe7 (1:29) Qxe7 (0:03) 19.Re1 (0:10)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: resignation is valid here
axeltiger(2311) whispers: what a travesty
19...Qc7 (5:42)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: the worst part is that this is not at all difficult to convert
axeltiger(2311) whispers: Bg5 here just ends the game
20.Bxf7+ (1:17)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: thia is also good I guess
20...Kh7 (0:37) 21.Bg5 (3:56)
axeltiger(2311) whispers: my queenside is a joke at this point
axeltiger(2311) whispers: the only problem is that it's not even funny
axeltiger resigns 1-0
