rjbriggs(1854) whispers: i never know what to make of the move 3 ... Nd4!? I usually have no problem with it tho.
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: if bl isn't careful, he can fall far behind in development...
7...Nf6 (2:46) 8.d3 (0:36) dxc3 (0:24) 9.Nxc3 (0:31) a6 (0:22)
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: calculating around e5...
10.e5 (3:37) Ng8 (0:18)
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: Bf4 or 0-0 seem totally fine, but can't pass this up.
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: c7 looks tender...
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: does Nd5 get in there? threats on f7, c7, and b6...
11.O-O (3:27) e6 (0:04) 12.Be3 (1:50) Ne7 (0:10) 13.Bc5 (1:03)
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: the development deficit is starting to show. i still have to make it count tho...
13...Nc6 (1:14)
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: i underestimated Nc6, but i think i'm still good here...
14.Qe3 (5:16) b5 (6:28)
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: sigh... making me decide...
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: oh... this is much better for me than Bxc5 first :)
15.Bxf8 (2:42) Rxf8 (1:18)
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: i had a variety of lines i went through in my head on Bx Qx b5 Bxb5!? axb5 Nxb5 that looked menacing, but i didn't see it all the way through to something concrete. the N at c6 winds up being a critical defender.
16.Bb3 (1:49) f5 (0:04) 17.exf6 (2:19) gxf6 (0:05)

gutierez(1908) whispers: :P
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: Nxf6 Qxf6 Qxe5 wins a pawn, but i'm left weak on light squares around my K and the B lives...
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: Nd6+ Kg7 Nxc8 Rxc8 looks lackluster, like i just helped Bl finish development
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: Nxf6 Nxd2 ...
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: Nxf6 Bb7!?

24.Rc1 (0:34) Rac8 (0:08) 25.Rec5 (0:04) Bc6 (0:40) 26.d4 (0:21) Rce8 (3:54) 27.d5 (2:15) exd5 (0:55) 28.Bxd5+ (0:03) Bxd5 (0:03) 29.Rxd5 (0:01) Rd8 (5:02)
rjbriggs(1854) whispers: the only problem with the d-pawn is that while it's isolated it's passed. if somehow bl could gain space w/ it, i'd have a harder time, or even a problem. at the same time, i'm effectively holding down the c-file. the only other open file, e, can be managed by Kf1 or Kf2 after moving my f-pawn. i think: tie him to defense of the d-pawn, advance the f-pawn to make my own threats.

rjbriggs(1854) whispers: unless i suffer a stroke or something in the next few moves, this is done.
38...d6 (6:14)
NokiaTwenty(2019) whispers: Black is lost, but it is the price of being a pawn down without a sufficient compensation
